Another Round of Finance Reports

Monday, May 5th, 2008

City Council candidates had another filing date deadline test last Friday as the “8 Days Before Election Day Campaign Finance Report” was due. This round, all candidates filed their paperwork with the city on time.

City of Wylie Mayor John Mondy reported contributions of $7,450 and expenditures of $8,114.71. He still shows a campaign balance of almost $1,300 as of the reporting period date. The bulk of his expenses went to the USPS for postage and Woodbridge Golf Club for a golf tournament fund raiser. By looking at the 13 pages of donors chipping in $100 or more in the report, I would say that the fund raiser was a success.

Mayoral candidate Eric Hogue received $520 in contributions of $50 or less and listed expenditures of $446.50 for an ad in the Wylie News and an ad with the Wylie Rotary Club.

The other reports should contain a “May Cause Drowsiness” warning label, but that’s what you get with finance reports.

Campaign Finance Report Rundown

City Council Place 6 incumbent Carter Porter filed his “30 Days Before Election Day Campaign Finance Report” today. Mr. Porter lists $250 in campaign contributions from the Texas Association of Realtors. He lists campaign expenditures of $1,143 for campaign signs and hardware. Mr. Porter still has $240 in contribution balance.

Next campaign finance reports are due 7 days before the election.

Campaign Finance Report Rundown

Friday, April 18th, 2008

City Council Place 5 candidate Chris Trout filed his “30 Days Before Election Day Campaign Finance Report” on April 16th. I’m not sure why it was filed so late considering total political contributions and total political expenditures were both marked as $0. To me, it seems like that would have been just as easy to do last week.

The real issue I have with this report is I’m quite positive I have seen Chris Trout signs everywhere. I remember those signs cost me a lot of money and every other candidate so far has their primary expense listed as “political signs”.

Maybe those signs were a gift and he had nothing to do with them. Maybe someone else had them made and plopped them in fields and yards all over town as a good gesture. I don’t really know because I haven’t spoken to Mr. Trout about this yet. I hope he returns my message this evening when he is done with his work day. There must be a reasonable explanation for this.

City Council Place 6 incumbent Carter Porter is the only remaining City Council candidate who has not filed a report.

Campaign Finance Report Rundown

For the previous installment, click here.

As of April 15th, two more candidates have  turned in their “30 Days Before Election Day Campaign Finance Report”. City Council Place 6 candidate Bennie Jones and City of Wylie Mayor John Mondy both turned in a report early this week.

Both are rather cut and dry, but it definitely pays to have been in office for the past 10 years. Mr. Mondy reported campaign contributions of $3,570, all individual donations under $50 each. Expenses thus far total $1,673, primarily for political signs and supplies.

Bennie Jones reported total contributions of $620 and expenditures of $1089. I hate to see these guys go out of pocket for an opportunity to serve the citizens. If you like Bennie Jones and have supported his message so far, drop him a small donation, would ya? Every little bit helps. He has donation information on his website.
